Exam Preps

 

MRI:

 

All patients who are over the age of 60 years old, or who currently have or have had a history of kidney problems, must have a recent CREATININE Blood Test that is less than 90 days old.  Upon request we are able to provide a prescription for blood work

 

CT:

All patients with an allergy to Shellfish or CT contrast material are unable to have the CT contrast unless they are pre-medicated.  You may contact our office for information about the pre-medication procedure.

All patients scheduled to have CT contrast that are diabetic must have a CREATININE Blood Test that is less than 30 days old. All patients scheduled to have CT contrast that are over 60 years old must have a CREATININE Blood Test that is less than 60 days old.   

All CT patients who are receiving contrast are also required to fast for 4 hours.

 

US:

 

Abdominal: NPO  (nothing by mouth)  8 hours.
Aorta: NPO 8 hours.
Gall Bladder: NPO 8 hours.
Liver: NPO 8 hours.
Kidney (Renals): NPO 8 hours. 1 hour prior to exam drink 20 oz. water and hold bladder until exam complete.
Kidney & Bladder (Renals): NPO 8 hours prior to exam. Drink 36 oz. water 1 hour prior to exam and hold bladder until exam complete.
Bladder: Drink 36 oz. of water 1 hour prior to exam time and arrive with a full bladder.
Pelvic: Drink 20 oz. water 1 hour prior to exam time and hold bladder until exam complete..

 

 

PET/CT Fusion:

 

No carbohydrates, caffeine, nicotine, and exercise 24 hours prior to exam.

No food or drink (other than water) 8 hours before scan.


Sedation:

 

All patients who are scheduled for sedation must have a driver who is required to come in and sign before the sedation will be administered.  Patients receiving oral sedation may have a light meal prior to their exam time.  Patients scheduled to receive I.V. sedation are required to fast for 4 hours prior to the scheduled sedation time.
